Tomoharu Ushida (born Fukushima, Japan, October 16, 1999[1][2]) is a Japanese pianist.
Early life and education
Tomoharu Ushida was born in Fukushima Prefecture.[3][4] He moved to Shanghai with his family soon after he was born, due to his father's business. He was just three years old when he already began piano lessons in Shanghai. He returned to Japan when he enrolled in primary school in Aichi Prefecture.[5]
Ushida studied at the Moscow Conservatory under the supervision of Yuri Slesarev[6] and Alexander Vershinin.[7] He released his debut album Liebesträume from Universal Classics in 2012. At age 12, Tomoharu became the youngest winner in history when he won the 1st prize award in the 16th Hamamatsu International Piano Academy Competition in February 2012.[8] His first grand award led him to begin his performance career in the same year (2012) and started by becoming the youngest Japanese classical pianist to release a debut CD on the Universal Music label. Since then.
Ushida composed the theme music of the exhibition "Liechtenstein" held at the New National Art Center in Tokyo and performed in the presence of the former Crown Prince (now His Majesty the Emperor) of Japan in 2012.[9][10] His three most recent CDs were included in the Record Geijutsu Special Selection.
In 2014, Ushida performed for the first time with overseas artists, the Wiener Kammer Orchestra (conducted by Stefan Vlader). In 2015 and 2019, he performed with the Russian National Orchestra conducted by Mikhail Pletnev,[11][12] and the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Yatsek Kaspsik in 2018.[13]
Having earned praise for his musical artistry, he was invited to appear with the Russian National Orchestra conducted by Mikhail Pletnev in Russia in May 2019, and in recitals in Warsaw and Brussels in August and October that year.
Tomoharu Ushida’s activities have been presented on television and other media, including the NHK TV program “Professional.”
Tomoharu Ushida turned 20 years old in 2019, and to mark this occasion he gave a highly successful solo recital at Suntory Hall in Tokyo on August 31, 2020.
In March 2022, he carried out recitals celebrating the 10th anniversary of his debut and received acclaim in every location. He has been the focus of much attention as a leading young pianist in terms of both popularity and outstanding artistry.
