Tora-Con is an annual anime convention held at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. The convention's name comes from the Japanese word tora (tiger) and is organized by the RIT Anime Club.[1]

History

Tora-Con was first held in 2004 and was founded to raise money for the anime club.[2][3] The convention grew from a single-day event to a two-day format beginning in 2010, when it reached an attendance capacity of 2,500 and closed registration.[3] In 2014, the event expanded to additional parts of campus and capped attendance at 3,000.[4][5] Tora-Con 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and a virtual event was held in 2021.[6] In-person events resumed in 2022.

Programming has included cosplay contests, anime screenings, gaming tournaments, panels, concerts, and an artists' alley.[4][7]
