Torsten Liem is a German Osteopath. He is the Founder and former CEO (1999-2019) of the Osteopathie Schule Deutschland (German School of Osteopathy)[1].

Life[edit]

Torsten Liem developed the first academic teaching programs for osteopathy, sport osteopathy, and pediatric osteopathy in Germany. The program evolved into university courses (Bachelor and Master of Science in Osteopathy) offered by the Osteopathie Schule Deutschland (OSD) in former collaboration with the University of Wales and current cooperation with the Dresden International University (DIU)[2][3]. Torsten Liem (MSc. Ost., MSc. Paed. Ost., DO, DPO) began his osteopathic education in 1989 and studied at the School for Classic Osteopathic Medicine in Germany, the COC at the campus of the Université libre de Bruxelles in Belgium, the University of Wales in Great Britain, and the Dresden International University in Germany. He was educated in acupuncture at the hospital of traditional Chinese medicine in Beijing, China and is, furthermore, trained in psychotherapy, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), trauma therapy, and hypnosis. Torsten Liem is a Member of the General Osteopathic Council (GOSC)[4] in Great Britain, the American Academy of Osteopathy (AOA)[5] in the US, and the Professional Association of the Osteopathie Schule Deutschland (VOSD)[6] in Germany. He is an Editor and Founder of the German Journal Osteopathische Medizin (Osteopathic Medicine)[7] and a Member of the Advisory Board of the International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine (IJOM)[8]. Furthermore, he is the Executive Director of the Osteopathic Research Institute (ORI)[9] and a Board Member of the German Society of Pediatric Osteopathy (GSPO)[10] and the European Society of Pediatric Osteopathy (ESPO)[11]. Torsten Liem runs a teaching practice of the Osteopathie Schule Deutschland (OSD)[12] and a private practice called Osteopathy Center Liem[13], both based in Hamburg, Germany. He is the Publisher and Author of numerous osteopathic textbooks and scientific articles (see Publications) and maintains a health blog[14]. He also published a DVD teaching series for cranial osteopathy[15] and a relaxation CD[16]. Torsten Liem is the initiator of the largest osteopathy conference in Europe[17] and a worldwide renowned lecturer for osteopathy with teaching activities in e.g. Germany, Great Britain, Argentina, Russia, Basil, Canada, and the US. During his lectures, he integrates experiences from yoga, meditation, and breathe therapeutic approaches. Torsten Liem, furthermore, developed the bifocal integration©, an osteopathic treatment approach for resolving emotional stress and traumatic influences. In his clinical practice, he combines principles from osteopathic and traditional Chinese medicine with yoga and psychological as well as energetic aspects.
