Trans Genocide Conspiracy Theory

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Trans Genocide Conspiracy Theory is a baseless claim that transgender people are being murdered or exposed to violence on a genocidal scale due to recent state laws and conservative talking points dealing with gender and sex-separate spaces. While the idea of 'Trans Genocide' has been promulgated by left-leaning activists and progressives, the number of transsexual individuals murdered per year has not reflected this characterization over the past decade.[1][2][better source needed] See here for a List of people killed for being transgender. The FBI Uniform Crime Report shows that anti-transgender hate crimes have not kept pace with the increasing number of people identifying as trans.[3] Most of these hate crimes are categorized as harassment or simple assault, and not murder. The UCLA School of Law's Williams Institute published a study showing a 100% increase among 18-25 year-olds alone in only a five year period between 2017-2022.[4] In this context, the rate of transgender identifying individuals has risen dramatically faster than the rate of hate crimes against them - while other groups, such as Black people and religious minorities, have experienced similar or higher increases in hate crimes during the same period. As a matter of fact, the number of trans-identifying people has risen exponentially in the past decade according to numerous self-identifying polls, as has the acceptance of trans people in society as measured by similar polls.[3]

Tennessee Senate Bill 0001

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed SB 0001 into law on March 2, 2023, thus restricting puberty blocking drugs, reconstructive genital surgeries and hormone pills to children under the age of 18. While not holding minors liable to any crime or lawsuit, the bill prohibits health care providers "from performing on a minor or administering to a minor a medical procedure if the performance or administration of the procedure is for the purpose of enabling a minor to identify with, or live as, a purported identity inconsistent with the minor's sex." Critics of the bill declare that 'gender affirming care' is helpful and already being utilized by many teens in the state, who could be harmed if it is abruptly stopped. Proponents of the bill cite the potential long-term harm done by puberty blockers and sex-change surgeries, arguing that a minor may not have the cognitive maturity to make such a life-altering decision.[5][6]

Florida House Bill 1557

Numerous opponents of the Florida "Parental Rights in Education" bill, wrongfully dubbed as the 'Don't Say Gay' bill by activists, have gone on social media such as Twitter and Reddit to campaign under or use a hashtag propagating 'Trans Genocide'. There has been no uptick in crimes against transgender or LGBTQ people in general in Florida since the passing of this bill.[7]

Other State Laws

Numerous legislation dubbed 'bathroom bills' and women's sports initiatives across the country are seeking to ban transgender people from sex-separate spaces. While opponents say that trans participation in the sport of their gender identity is harmless, advocates say many young women athletes have been harmed or denied recognition due to current policies allowing stronger biological male athletes to compete.[8][better source needed][9]
