Tristar Air Flight 810 was a cargo flight operating for United Nations that crash landed near Agfooye and Arbiska. All 6 onboard survived with 2 injured.[1][2]
It was the last aircraft of Tristar Air and had to suspend operations after losing it in this accident.
Aircraft
The was built in 1980 and delivered to Air France the following year.[3] The aircraft was at the time of the accident 35 years old. It was the only aircraft of Tristar Air.[4]
Accident
The aircraft was carrying supplies for United Nations, and was on final to Aden Adde International Airport. The aircraft went around 4 times. As the aircraft headed for another approach one of the engines failed and after, the second engine also failed. It was forced to land on a road near Arbisk near Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, Somalia. The aircraft came to rest on its belly. Somali Authorities reported the aircraft had attempted several approaches to the airport but had gone around each time because the flight crew lost visual reference to the runway. The flight departed late from Cairo, and as a consequence reached Moghadishu after sunset. The airfield does not have runway lights and is closed from sunset until sunrise. After several attempts, the flight had run out of fuel, making the emergency landing necessary. Of the six people on board the cargo flight incoming from Ostend in Belgium, two received minor injuries in the landing while the aircraft sustained substantial damage beyond economic repair.[5][6][1][2]
Aftermath
Tristan Air had to suspend operations after losing its last aircraft.[7]
