The True and Fair Party is a minor political party in the United Kingdom. It was launched in January 2022 by Gina Miller as a response to various scandals within the British Conservative Party, particularly Partygate.[1] The party's focus is on modernising and strengthening the machinery and democracy[2] and proportional representation.

History

The True and Fair Party emerged from the 2012 campaign of the same name, targeting regulatory failure and systemic misconduct in the financial sector[3]. Leader, Gina Miller, previously campaigned against Brexit, and in 2017 brought a legal case against the British government (R (Miller) v Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union)[4].

In February 2022, the centrist Renew Party closed and merged into the True and Fair Party[5]

In October 2022 the party announced 9 candidates to stand in the next election[6] including candidates to stand against Nadine Dorries[7] in Mid Bedfordshire and Sarah Dines in Derbyshire Dales.[8] Leader Gina Miller announced she would stand in Epsom and Ewell against Chris Grayling[9]

Policies

According to the True and Fair Party's website, their main policies come under the headings of cleaning up politics & public office, and electoral reform[10]. They propose proportional representation, introducing an oath of office applicable to all MPs and public servants, and adding the Ministerial Code, Nolan Principles and prerogative powers on a statutory footing.[11]
