Tyrone (rapper)
Tyrone Gordon (born 12 December 1995) is a British rapper, promoter and music producer from Southampton.
Tyrone is part of the dance music group FooR, whose single "Fresh" with Majestic and Dread MC was used on a 2020 advertisement for Coors Light,[1]. Tyrone is also part of the urban rap duo Tyrone x Warbz.
Early career
Tyrone began his career as an MC in 2017, releasing his first dance record "Ravin Face". Shortly after its release he became a member of the dance music group FooR and took on the role of the host. The group released the album Friends of FooR,[2] which charted at number nine in the Official Dance Album Chart in the United Kingdom in 2018.[3] This led to a sold-out UK album tour[4] and performances at festivals including Boomtown, Isle of Wight and Nass.[citation needed]
In early 2019, Tyrone made his debut as a solo artist, releasing his first track with another Southampton-based artist, Warbz. The track, "Told Them Already",[5] was uploaded to the urban music platform GRM Daily. Prior to this development, Warbz had featured with Tyrone on FooR track "Get Gassed", which was included on the album Friends of FooR.[citation needed]
Tyrone x Warbz
"Told Them Already" led to the creation of Tyrone x Warbz. They released other singles that year including "How About Now",[6] "Warming Up"[7] and "SO". The last single inspired the title of their first album release, Welcome To SO which was featured on BBC Music Introducing: Solent with Steph Newenhouse.[8][9] Prior to its release, the album sat at number six in the iTunes pre-order chart .[10]
Tyrone x Warbz's 2020 single "Can't Relate", released on GRM Daily,[11] featured on BBC Music Introducing: Solent[12] and received its first national radio play on BBC Radio 1 Xtra on 15 September.[13][14]
Tyrone x Warbz announced a headline show at The Joiners[15] in Southampton which gained attention from Southampton Football Club. It resulted in a performance in front of more than 30,000 at St. Mary's Stadium[16]
Other work
Tyrone is also the host[17] of Foreverland, a club/festival event which tours the world. He has also created a brand, SO Movement, which includes a record label to release tracks from other up and coming artists and "Litty", a live music event company designed to provide a safe party environment for young people aged 14+. The releases have featured Deno,[18] Swarmz,[19] Poundz[20] and ZieZie,[21] as well as many local artists.
Tyrone is a programme manager within the Urban Music Development Unit of the SoCo Music Project.[22] In November 2020, SoCo combined with SO Movement to produce and release a compilation album, Sounds of Southampton Vol. 1, featuring Tyrone x Warbz and 24 other young artists..[23]
