A costume/wig studio plus design production areas round out additional features at this esteemed institution though some new additions such as another apartment complex are currently underway.
History[edit]
The University of North Carolina School of the Arts was founded in 1972, inspired by composer Vittorio Giannini's dream to create a conservatory for artists. After receiving state funds and establishing a committee, it became an official part of the University of North Carolina system. In 2008, the board unanimously approved its name change from "North Carolina School of the Arts" to "University Of North Carolina School Of The Arts" in order to increase recognition. This decision was then ratified by other governing bodies including UNC Board or Governors and Governor Mike Easley.
