US Army Area Analysis Intelligence Agency

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The US Army Area Analysis Intelligence Agency was an Army intelligence production organization establish effective 27 July 1968 by Para I, DAGO 47, 1962.[1] AAIA was created in accordance with DA Reorganization Planning Directive 381–2, 1962.[2] AAIA was created with resources and personnel from the Army Technical Services; several organizations in the United States Army Corps of Engineers including the Beach Erosion Board, the Board of Engineers for Rivers and Harbors and the Army Map Service; and several contractors. The organization of the new agency and the sources of its resources and funding are described at length in an "Area Analysis Intelligence Plan" available in the National Archives.[3]

The Army Area Analysis Intelligence Agency was "discontinued as a Department of the Army" activity by Para I, DAGO 12, 1963[4]. It was absorbed into Production Center of the newly created Defense Intelligence Agency. Although it was short-lived, the AAIA served a useful purpose. It brought together intelligence resources scattered among various Army organizations into a single agency which could then be incorporated into the newly created Defense Intelligence Agency along with counterpart organizations from the Air Force and the Navy.
