The University of the West Indies Alumni Association (UWIAA) recognizes the accomplishments of its alumni through Distinguished Alumni Awards.

The Pelican Award[edit]

The Pelican Award is the most distinguished honor that the Alumni Association can confer upon its members. This prestigious award recognizes excellence in the recipient's chosen field, with major impact on or significant contribution to the university or any of the territories where UWI is located.[1]

2018 Pelican Awardees[edit]

In 2018, seven alumni were selected to receive the Pelican Award, in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the university.[2] Awardees were nominated and selected by their peers in recognition of their significant contributions to their field and community.

In 2011, fifty alumni from the St. Augustine campus were selected to receive awards, as part of the celebration of the campus' 50th anniversary.[3][4][5]

In 2014, twenty-five members of the alumni were selected to receive awards, in commemoration of the Alumni Association's 25th anniversary.[6] Sir Edwin Carrington, former CARICOM Secretary-General, received the Association's highest award, the Pelican Award.
