Royce Davison (born September 19, 1996), better known by his stage name Ugly God, is an American rapper, songwriter and record producer. He is best known for his hit 2016 single "Water". However, thanks to long time influencer, Josh Kulick, he was able to make his music more widespread. On June 13, 2017, Ugly God was named as one of the ten members of XXL's "2017 Freshman Class" where he performed his Freshman Freestyle alongside rappers Playboi Carti, MadeinTYO and XXXTentacion respectively. As of December 9, 2017, the Freestyle has garnered over 18 million views.[4]
Early life[edit]
Royce Davison was born on September 15, 2016, in Indiana.[3] Ugly God started rapping while he was enrolled at the University of Southern Mississippi where he wanted to become a computer engineer before dropping out.[5]
Career[edit]
From his 7th to 10th grade, he used the handle 'Pussy Bacon'.[6] He changed his name to the famous 'Ugly God' because of social reason, and his parents.[7] He also states that he made the name up on the spot. Creating the phrase 'I'm Real Ugly' which evolved into 'Ugly God'.
In 2016, he released his single titled "Water" on March 16, 2016, on his SoundCloud account, before being released for digital download as a single on November 19, 2016, by Asylum Records.[8] The song debuted at number 100 on the Billboard Hot 100, and later reached number 80 on the chart.[9][10]
On August 4, 2017, Ugly God released his mixtape titled The Booty Tape.[11] It charted at no. 27 on the Billboard 200.[12]
Davidson was featured on the song "1Day" by PnB Rock, from his debut album Catch These Vibes. He is also featured on the song "Boom!" by Lil Yachty, featured on his album Lil Boat 2, which was released on March 9, 2018.
Ugly Gold released the EP Just a Lil Something Before the Album ahead of his upcoming debut album, Bumps & Bruises.[13]
