Umesh Vikram Kumar is an Indian born Para Badminton player who has won a Bronze medal at the BWF Para Badminton Championships, 2017 in the SL-3 category. He is supported by the GoSports Foundation through the Para Champions Programme.
Early life and background[edit]
Born on 17th August 1992, in Sitamarhi Bihar. Umesh has been suffering from polio since the age of 2. He has always been a sports fanatic since his childhood and has been playing various sports throughout his life which eventually helped him build his strength and conditioning.
Career[edit]
He started playing badminton in 2011 at his engineering college due to the availability of ample facilities. In 2012 he won his first Bronze medal at the nationals. His main support has been his college mates and his seniors to the extent that a couple of his super seniors have even sponsored his initial tournaments. In addition to that the Red cross society, Bihar has also been supporting him. He has also taken part in the Men’s High jump event. He is currently ranked 7th in the World in both the Men’s Singles & Doubles circuit and trains at the TATA steel Badminton training Centre, Jamshedpur and P. Gopichand Academy, Hyderabad.
