Umut Gundogdu (Turkish: Umut Gündoğdu), also known as TheUmutmusic, is a Turkish musician and songwriter[1] Along with his brother Ufuk, also known as Argo, Gündoğdu is well-known for his role as a member of the Turkish R&B musical group, Barakabeat.[2] He is also a graduate of the Digital Film Academy in Manhattan, New York.[1]
Early life and education[edit]
Gündoğdu was born on 10 January 1986, in Eskişehir, Turkey.[3] During his primary school years, Gündoğdu's music teacher encouraged him to join the choir, and he carried it throughout high school. He also began performing in musical theater while he was in high school.[4]
Career[edit]
Before Gündoğdu professionally entered the music industry, he worked at a local copy center for two years before he became the manager. At the same time, he rented studios many times a week to create his demos, improve his live performing skills and script lyrics.[1]
Gündoğdu started producing music in 2005. He joined the Rap/R&B musical group, Barakabeat, in 2007 with his brother Ufuk, also known as Argo.[5][6] He toured across Turkey with the group and performed in Eskişehir’s ‘Club 222.’ The band also created 2 albums and released numerous singles. The group’s music was played on Fox TV Turkey.[1]
Solo music[edit]
When Barakabeat broke up in 2011, Gündoğdu moved to the Netherlands, where he began performing as a solo artist and played music at clubs and events as a DJ.[3] He also created his own home studio so he could continue to make music.[1] He released his first single, "One Love" in the Netherlands in 2013. Two years later in 2015, he released his second single "Bounce."
He also opened a bar named Wave Bar in The Hague.[1]
Editing and filmmaking[edit]
While still in Netherlands, Gündoğdu started making amateur videos and began editing them with his brother Ufuk. He also began to learn other technical areas of the entertainment industry.[1]
Natural Sound Effects[edit]
In 2019, Gündoğdu moved to New York to study filmmaking. While still enrolled in the program, he launched NSE (Natural Sound Effects) Music, an independent music label that also specializes in video production.[7]
The same year, he released "Desire",[8] followed by his debut single, "With You", which was released on 21 February 2020. The single was broadcast on U.S. radio and debuted on Kiss FM.[9][10] The music video for the single was produced and directed by Gündoğdu himself. The song was broadcast on U.S. radio and debuted on Kiss FM.[11]
As of 2020, Gündoğdu makes short films, does editing, color grading, and directing. He also does mix & mastering and composing music, writing songs, and singing.[1][3]
