Underwhere is a rock band from Nödinge, now known as Nödinge-Nol, Sweden. The band was formed in 1992 by a group of friends: guitarist/producer Joachim Nyberg, vocalist Robert Bävermalm, drummer Peter Nilsen, guitarist Daniel Stiller and bassist Jonas Ekstrand[1]. The band, over time, became inactive. In 2017 two of the original band members instumentalist/producer Joachim Nyberg and vocalist Robert Bävermalm reignited their love for music production and have since released countless songs, Joachim Nyberg playing all of the instruments and Robert Bävermalm as the lead vocals. However, one song, featuring all original band members, is also a part of their current discography: “Alison (Underwhere song)”, which was also featured on the album “Absolut Nödinge (a compilation of local artists from Nödinge-Nol, Sweden from 1993).

The duo now consists of Joachim Nyberg, who produces and plays all the instruments and Robert Bävermalm, who is the lead singer. The bands cover art is made by Helen Norman.[2]

History[edit]

1992: Underwhere forms[edit]

In 1992, a group of friends who were brought together by producer Joachim Nyberg and vocalist Robert Bävermalm, created a band based on their common interest for music.[3]

Their most prominent song of that time “Alison (Underwhere song)”, was said to be a favourite at Ales Nightclub, located in Nödinge-Nol, Sweden where they often had gigs.

1995: Underwhere breaks up[edit]

As life and other priorities took over, the band by time became inactive, but producer Joachim Nyberg and vocalist Robert Bävermalm’s love for music was never forgotten.

2017–present: Underwhere makes a comeback[edit]

To this date Underwhere has over 20 songs available on Spotify.[4] [5] They have even had their song “Burning Bridges (Underwhere song)” played on the Swedish Pirate Rock radio station and were "Veckan's band" translating to "The band of the week" from Swedish in November, 2019.[6] The same song sports over 37,000 streams on Spotify.

Musical style[edit]

Underwhere's music often fluctuates between hard rock, heavy metal. Their official Facebook page describes the band as "the most groovy melodic metal ever"[7]. lyrics are written by Joachim Nyberg and Robert Bävermalm, however it is not uncommon for their respective family members and friends to input their own texts and backing vocals in Underwhere songs. For example, in the song "Miss You (Underwhere song)" Joachim Nybergs daughter, Sabina Nyberg, wrote and sang in the last verse. Tiina Nyberg, Joachims wife, has also contributed to the band's lyrics, as "Change (Underwhere song)" and one of their upcoming songs is solely written by Tiina. The lyrics as Joachim has stated, are based on their own "life experiences, life view and goes straight into to the heart".

Recognition[edit]

In the bands overall history their fan base has spread from a small town in Nödinge-Nol, Sweden all the way to the United States, England and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In Dubai, they have also been within the 5 top metal bands for the past 2 years, as of July 13, 2020 are at spot number 5[8]. In 2020 the band even reached the top spot on the metal chart in Dubai.
