Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd (commonly abbreviated as UNN) is a Bruneian telecommunications company and the sole wholesale provider of national infrastructure in Brunei Darussalam. Established in 2018, it is 100% owned by the Government of Brunei through Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd.[1]

UNN was created to consolidate all telecommunications infrastructure in the country, effectively separating the network layer from the retail layer to foster a more competitive market among retail service providers (RSPs) such as imagine, Datastream Technology, and Progresif.[2]

History

UNN was established on 4 December 2018 as part of Brunei's strategic plan to modernize its ICT sector in alignment with Wawasan Brunei 2035 (Brunei Vision 2035).[1]

On 1 September 2019, UNN officially took over the network assets and infrastructure previously operated by the country's major providers:

This "asset-light" transformation allowed the retail companies to focus on customer service and product innovation, while UNN focused on upgrading the national backbone, including the rollout of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and 5G technology.[3]

Fixed and Mobile Network

UNN maintains over 5,000 km of fiber optic cable across the country and operates more than 600 mobile base stations. As of 2023, UNN has achieved over 90% nationwide coverage for fixed services and has prepared the infrastructure for 5G deployment.[4]

Data Centers and ICT

The company provides enterprise-level services including:

  • Colocation: Tier 3 certified data center facilities for hosting servers.
  • Cloud Services: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) for government and corporate clients.
  • Cyber Security: Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection and managed security services.[5]
