A new TV station is open for business in Letter People Land, and Mister H is busy recruiting new talent. Mister T sings country music, Mister N blows some serious jazz on his noisy nose, Mister M attempts to sing calypso, Mister F tries his feet at juggling, and Miss A tries to tell jokes. Mister M criticizes Miss A's comedy and she gets upset, and the two argue over who has the better sound. When the two of them bump into each other and make their sounds at the same time, Mister H likes what he sees and agrees that "sound catching" should be the Letter People's ticket to stardom, but Mister M angers Miss A (who needs to be in all the sound catches), and has to find her after she walks out. He and Sophie subsequently does find her and there is a reconciliation, and the Letter People are on their way to fame and fortune. The gang goes to the TV studio, where they meet TV star Monty Swell. Monty likes the sound catches, but thinks something is missing...but soon the Letter People figure it out. Instead of one sound catch, they do two at a time and make words. Monty goes ga-ga over it and decides to make a game show out of it, thus "The Catching Game" is born. "The Catching Game" is about to go on the air! Miss A gives Monty Swell and Mister H her blueprint for the set, which includes a starting clue box, a catching clue box (which is the largest) and an ending clue box to let people know which sounds are where in a word. The show debuts successfully because of this design scheme.

In Miss Red's Dream, She and Mister R is sent into outer space to the planet Snickers to rescue Miss A and Mister Savoy blue are being kept by the Empress Mung. When the computer on their spaceship goes on strike, Mister R and Miss Red befriends an interplanetary pal named Lucky Star, who helps Mister R hear his name in words. He makes this sound in the newfound Divided Catching Cluebox with Miss A for Empress Mung. Mung is impressed and lets Miss A and Mister Savoy blue go home, but keeps Mister R and Miss Red. Will Mister R and Miss Red escape from Planet Snickers? Will you be able to get Lucky Star's song out of your head? And will that announcer learn to imitate anyone else besides Walter Winchell? Just as Miss A and Mister Maroon heads back to Letter People Land from the Planet Snickers, Empress Mung gets their top aide, Moogoo, to bring Miss O and Mister Aureolin to Snickers to make a sound with Mister R and Miss Red in the divided catching clue box. Miss O and Mister R succeed in making the OR sound, but Empress Mung isn't quite finished yet...while Miss O and Mister Aureolin can go home, Mister R and Miss Red is forced to stay. This edict is accented by Moogoo zapping Mister R with an Itchy Ray Beam when Lucky Star tries to get him to his spaceship. Will Mister R itch himself crazy, just like Miss I? Will he get to go home? And will Empress Mung quit laughing like she inhaled too much nitrous? Empress Mung captures Miss E, Miss I, and Miss U in order to make more divided catching clue box sounds with her favorite hostage, Mister R and Miss Red. However, Mister R is quite worn out and can't make THREE new sounds, so he, the boys and the girls decide to trick Empress Mung by making the same sound, only switching the girls in the clue box. Empress Mung is disappointed in this and sends everyone--and the Divided Catching Clue Box--home. Mister R and the Letter Girls wakes Miss Red that she turned out to be a dream...or was it?

Mister S is awakened by news of three unidentified flying objects in Letter People Land. They turn out to be a period, question mark, and exclamation point, which teach Mister S, Miss O, and Miss U (who happened to be in the park when the UFO's arrived) about how they're used in sentences. The Letter People Land Clueboxes are in the World Series, and the gang is watching the final game on Monty Swell's TV set...which promptly goes kaput. Instead, the Letter People are reduced to reading sentences that flash on Monty's TV screen to tell them what's going on during the game. The Clueboxes win the game when their star slugger Pam hits a grand slam...just as Monty's TV goes back to work, and the Letter People sing one final number of the 1979 special, "Pam Hit A Grand Slam".
