United Airlines Flight 627 was a scheduled passenger flight from Denver to Newark that was operated by a Boeing 757. The aircraft landed hard and bounced twice causing serious structural damage to the nose landing gear before leaving the runway area. All 166 people on board were uninjured and were evacuated on the runway. The accident seems to have done serious internal and external damage on the forward fuselage. [1][2]
Aircraft[edit]
The aircraft was a 22-year-old Boeing 757-200 which was operated by Continental Airlines, until the merger with United Airlines. The aircraft was powered by two Rolls-Royce RB211-535E4B engines and its tail number was N26123. [3]
Incident[edit]
The plane took off from Denver, Colorado bound for Newark, New Jersey with 166 passengers and crew onboard. The plane landed hard on Newark's runway 22L at 12:56 (Local Time) bouncing twice causing a high amount of damage to nosegear and forward fuselage. The Aircraft came to a stop with the left main landing gear off the runway into the grass but with the nose gear still on the paved surface of the runway. The plane could not taxi back to the runway, forcing the passengers to evacuate onto the runway via stairs. It was also reported that the gears' doghouse shot up into the cabin, causing major internal damage. [4]
