Pakistan established diplomatic foreign relations with Cameroon on the 1st of June in 1961, shortly after gained it's Independence from France and Great Britain. The commencement of bilateralism between the two countries was Pakistan's efforts to expand its diplomacy abroad and Pakistani presence in Africa and strengthen its ties with the newly emerging Independent nations of the time respectively. Also later on the 1st of October in 1961, the formerly British Southern Cameroons gained freedom from the United Kingdom by Vote of the UN General Assembly and joined with former French Cameroun to form the Federal Republic of Cameroon, a date which is now observed as Unification Day, a public holiday.[1]
