University of Ilorin Library is the main library of University of Ilorin. It was established in early 1976 and commenced services on 25th of October, 1976. It was established to meet the required resources needed for teaching, research and self-development activities of the University and its environment.[1] The Library provides a wide range of services with the help of 5 divisions.[2]
History
The University Library was established in May 1976.[1] The sole responsibility of the Library is to select, acquire and organize books, periodicals, documents, newspapers, maps, and other print and electronic resources that are required for teaching, research and self-development activities of the University and its environment. It started services in October 1976. It has 4 major divisions namely; Main Library, E-Library, Law Library and College of Medicine Library.[3] It has 35 staff, renders services to 25,000 staff and students and has 12 sections.[2] The University Library operates a hybrid system with collections developed mainly along programme considerations. The Library houses over 200,000 volumes of books, pamphlets, journals, theses, dissertations and government documents with 4,688 seating capacity.[4]
