Univista Insurance[edit]

Univista Insurance is an independent Miami-based agency that specializes in coverage for Hispanic communities. This firm has more than 1,100 employees, 122 offices in Florida, 107 franchises, and revenues of $76 million as of 2018.[1] Insurance Journal ranked Univista No. 31 in the top 100 U.S. property and casualty agencies in 2019 and No 33 in 2018.[2][3]

History[edit]

The company was founded in 2009 by Ivan Herrera and his wife Ania Herrera to provide insurance to the community. In 1996, Herrera arrived in Miami accompanied by his wife, parents, and a dog. This 23-year-old Cuban-born biologist started working in construction, doing deliveries, and other low paying jobs to help his family. By then, he found an opportunity in insurance sales and passed the state license exams to become certified. Then he started selling health insurance policies in Spanish speaking communities. Years later, in mid-2000, he was making a six-figure income working for a major carrier. During the financial crisis of 2009, Herrera knew that people and businesses were still looking for insurance and even more so at rates they could afford. Both his wife and him took the $40,000 in their bank account and used it to buy the name Univista, that was easy to pronounce in English and Spanish and launched the company.[1]

In 2019 the company has been ranked in the top 3,406 fastest-growing private companies in the country with a revenue of $75.4 million.[4] Univista Insurance has 122 locations in Florida, including more than 15 corporate offices,107 franchises and three call centers. In California, three offices have opened and the company announced plans to launch its franchise program on the West Coast. [5]

Products[edit]

The company offers auto, home, life, and health insurance to individuals, plus a range of commercial coverage to businesses and about 70 percent of its polices are in private auto coverage, the rest are homeowners, life and commercial policies.[1]
