In December 2024, despite Dr. Seuss's widow Audrey Geisel's disapproval and prohibition over producing live-action adaptations of her husband's works in the future, Jim Carrey stated that he was open to reprising his role as the Grinch in a new How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) film on the condition that he could portray the Grinch through motion capture technology, citing his "extremely excruciating" experience with makeup in the original film.
