Untitled the exorcist film is an upcoming supernatural horror film written, directed and produced by Mike Flanagan, acting as the third major reboot of the franchise, being its seventh installment. It is set to be released on March 13, 2026 by Universal Pictures[1] and is slated to be produced by Blumhouse, Intrepid and Morgan Creek.
Pre-production
Untitled The Exorcist Film will be written, directed and produced by Mike Flanagan, who announced the film on May 29, 2024.[2] Flanagan describes it as "the scariest movie" he's ever made, aiming to honor the original while introducing a fresh perspective.[3]
The project is a collaboration between Blumhouse and Morgan Creek Entertainment. Flanagan will produce through his Red Room Pictures banner, alongside longtime collaborator Trevor Macy of Intrepid Pictures, along with Universal Pictures, who has scheduled the film for theatrical release on March 13, 2026.
The film was supposed to be part of a trilogy but the idea was eventually scrapped after the poor reception of The Exorcist: Believer, along with Blumhouse's overhaul.[4]
