Upstix is a British real estate technology (PropTech) company founded in 2022 by businessman Giles Mackay, the founder of Hometrack.[1][2] The company provides instant property valuations, cash offers, and services designed to accelerate or stabilise property sales.
History
Upstix launched in March 2022 with backing of around £250 million for its iBuying model. At launch, it committed to purchasing 97 homes worth approximately £29 million, using algorithms and data analysis to generate instant valuations and cash offers.[3][4]
Products and Services
Upstix’s offerings include:
- Instant offers and valuations – homeowners can obtain a digital property valuation and an immediate cash offer through the company’s online platform.[5]
- Fast home purchases – sellers may complete transactions in as little as seven days.[6]
- ChainBreak tool – introduced in April 2022 to help resolve collapsed property chains by purchasing affected homes at a discount and coordinating contributions from other parties. The service was scaled following successful pilot programmes with estate agents.[7]
Market Strategy
The company targets homeowners requiring quick transactions, including those facing divorce, probate, or debt, as well as private landlords impacted by regulatory and tax changes such as the Renters Reform Bill.[8][9]
Leadership and Expansion
In September 2024, the company appointed Fred Jones, a former Uber and TIER executive, as its chief executive officer. Jones’s appointment marked a strategic pivot towards scaling AI-enabled valuation tools and managing projected demand of over 100,000 customer inquiries by the end of 2024.[10]
