Uptowncharlybrown (foaled February 6, 2007 in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse who was working towards a berth in the 2010 United States Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing series. Sired by Graded stakes race winner, Limehouse, he is out of the mare La Iluminada, a daughter of Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame inductee, Langfuhr. He is owned by a racing partnership in which 59 people each invested US$1,250.[1]
Background[edit]
Uptowncharlybrown made his racing debut on December 26, 2009, at Tampa Bay Downs, winning a 6½ furlong sprint by nine lengths. He made his next start at the same track on January 16, 2010, in the 7 furlong Pasco Stakes. He won this one by six lengths.[2] Uptowncharlybrown suffered the first defeat of his career in his third start while running third in the Sam F. Davis Stakes behind Rule and Schoolyard Dreams.
Trainer Alan Seewald died unexpectedly on April 12, 2010, and Kiaran McLaughlin later took over. The horse ran on June 5 in the third leg of the U.S. Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes.[3] He finished fifth, but was disqualified and placed last due to losing the eight pound handicapping weight on the backstretch.[4]
