Mukesh Kumar Mishra (born 31 December 1990) is an Indian karate coach and former competitive karate athlete. In early 2026, he became the first karate coach from the Indian state of Bihar to receive accreditation from the World Karate Federation.[1][2][3][4] [5]

Early life and education

Mishra was born in Darbhanga in the Indian state of Bihar. His father, Indrakant Mishra, worked for the Bihar Police, and his mother, Sabita Mishra, was a homemaker. He obtained a bachelor of business administration degree from Sikkim Manipal University and a bachelor of physical education degree from Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University.[6][7]

Career

Mukesh started practising karate when he was 14 and competed between 2008 and 2016 representing Bihar in national tournaments across the country.[7][8] He holds 4th Dan Black Belt in Shitō-ryū karate.[6]

After retiring from competition, he began working as a karate coach in 2017 and has since trained athletes of karate in Bihar, preparing players for state and national level competitions. His athletes have won medals at national competitions, including the National School Games and KIO National Championships,[9][6][7] and university competions.[10][11][12][13]

Notable participation in 4th KIO National Karate Championship 2025 held in Dehradun winning one silver and one bronze medal.[14][15][4] and In December 2024, winning two gold and five bronze medals at 68th National School Games held in New Delhi.[9][16] [17]

Mukesh was selected as India's national team coach for the Karate1 Youth League 2026 held in Manila, Philippines.[18][19][20]

Mukesh was also first elected joint secretary in 2021 of State Karate Association of Bihar, and re-elected in 2025.[21][22] He was also a member of the organising committee by Karate India Organisation for the 5th KIO National Karate Championship 2026 held in New Delhi.[6][7]
