Selvakumar Art Director

Selvakumar is an Indian film art director and production designer who has worked in Tamil cinema, Telugu cinema, and Bollywood. His work in his debut film, Iyarkai (2004), won him accolades from the audience and critics. His landmark film, Madharasappatinam (2010) – a period drama set in 1940s India – transports viewers to that era through his meticulous details and extensive research. Selvakumar's work was also notable in the films MANIDHAN, THANIORUVAN, IMAIKANODIGAL, and HERO.

Film career

Selvakumar has been involved in the art of set design since 1997. As a Painting Graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from one of the earliest Fine Arts colleges in India, "[College Of Fine Arts - Chennai]", he participated in several National, Regional, and State-level art exhibitions in India during his college days. His artworks are in some government institutions and private collections. His work as an art director was highly appreciated in films such as Iyarkai, E, Peraanmai, and 180. His recent work includes Billan2 and Neerparavai. He has worked in feature films as an art director / production designer, including Hindi: Phir Milenge and Hul Chul. His expertise in recreating the nuances of nature in a controlled environment or at a live location is much appreciated. His sets for "Iyarkai", "E", and "Peraanmai" are awe-inspiring, and the grandeur of the sets he created for Madharasapattinam added to the flavour of the films.

In addition to being an art director, Selvakumar has worked as an Art Director for Commercials and designed a few stages for events and awards functions like Filmfare.
