VR’t Ventures (pronounced V-Art Ventures), is a Los Angeles based technology company focused on developing Virtual Reality (VR) & Augmented Reality (AR) applications that capture and archive live art exhibitions.[1]
Company History
VR’t Ventures was founded in 2017 by Jacob Koo and Linus Adolfsson. Jacob Koo, an entrepreneur with a previous background in Import/Export of commodities and an art museum hobbyist, bridged a gap between the analog era and the digital/new media era by making temporary art exhibits easily accessible for a remote audience.[2]
Koo innovated a new form of technology utilizing advanced virtual reality user interfaces.[3]
Technology
VR’t Ventures developed a program that utilized laser scanning and volumetric photogrammetry in order to preserve a digital footprint of a real art exhibit.[4] Once fully operational, the company partnered with Samsung Gear VR, with Oculus as the platform.[5]
Exhibitions Utilizing Virtual Reality
Museum of Contemporary Art
On November 7, 2017, VR’t Ventures launched their first virtual reality experience, Kerry James Marshall Retrospective: ‘Mastry’, in partnership with MOCA Los Angeles.[6] Koo, Adolfsson and the artist, Kerry James Marshall, through the use of virtual reality, presented classic artwork spanning 35 years to a modern audience.[7]
Shepard Fairey
VR’t Ventures collaborated with the famed Shepard Fairey to preserve his largest solo fine art exhibit to date, DAMAGED.[8] Koo, Adolfsson and Talespin created a mobile application to feature Shepard Fairey's work on smartphones.[9]
VR’t Ventures changed the design of their platform and made it accessible via Augmented Reality. DAMAGED by Shepard Fairey, was officially launched on October 15, 2018 in partnership with Juxtapoz Magazine,[10] and Talespin.[11] It was one of the world’s first art exhibits that you could access from your phone using Augmented Reality technology.[12]
