Vadim Blumin

Vadim Blumin (born May 25, 1979) is a historian, educator, author, and activist in the fields of Jewish education and civil society in Israel.[1]

Education[edit]

Blumin has a BA in international relations, history, and Jewish history from Hebrew University. He also has a MA in Jewish history from the same university. He is an alumnus of the GVANIM Program for Pluralism and Leadership. He also attended the JDC-ELKA Mashamaut training program for Directors-General of Voluntary Organizations.

Career[edit]

Blumin was the founder and Executive Director of 1+1: Association of Immigrant Youth. This role got him a position as a contestant on the 2005 Israeli reality TV show, “Wanted: A Leader”.[2] He has also served as a Content and Training Specialist at The Jewish Agency for Israel, and the former director of the Agency’s Education Department in St. Petersburg.[3] He is currently the Director of the Mandel Program for Excellence of The Jewish Agency for Israel. [4]

He is the founder of Generation 1.5 – Russian Speaking Young Adults, and serves as a Board member of Be Free Israel (Israel Hofshit),[5] and on the Limmud-FSU Content Committee. [6] He is also a board member of the New Israel Fund,[7] and a member of the Schusterman ROI Community initiative.[8]

He has also spoken at various international conferences and events, including the 70 Faces of Israel event,[9] the Ruppin International Conference on Immigration and Social Integration,[10] and the annual Hagigat Ivrit festival of Hebrew language.[11] [12] In 2019 he presented at the Limmud FSU NY program.[13]

He is the co-author of the Commonwealth of Independent Tastes: Recollections and Recipes of Immigrants from the Former Soviet Union, which won the 2016 Gourmand World Cookbook Award.[14]

Personal life[edit]

Blumin is the son of Igor Blumin and Alla Mizhericher Blumin. His sister is singer-actress Marina Maximilian Blumin.[15]
