Valerii Makovetskyi (born February 15, 1961 in Taldıqorğan, Kazakhstan) is a Ukrainian businessman. He is chairman of the board to the Foxtrot company.
Biography[edit]
In 1978, he finished comprehensive school № 9 in Kommunarsk in the Lugansk region. He graduated from Donbas State Technical University, mechanical engineering technic department with distinction in 1984. In 1981, Makovetsky started working at Kommunarsk metallurgical factory. Since 1983, he has worked as a turner at Melitopol machine tool factory.
In 1985, he moved to Kyiv and worked as a master in a mechanical workshop at the industrial department of the Kyiv manufacturing association by the name of Artem. In 1994, Makovetskyi and his partner Gennadii Vykhodtsev launched a wholesale electronics imports business and opened their first outlet under the Foxtrot brand in Kharkiv.[1][2]
In 1997, Makovetsky founded Ukrainian household supplies and electronics retailing network “Foxtrot. Home appliance”. In 2004, he became the head of Foxtrot group of companies, which develops “Foxtrot. Home appliance” (omnichannel household supplies and electronics retailing), “Secunda” (watch retailing), “DEPO’t Center” and “Fantasy Town”(real estate management) - currently Foxtrot trading mark.[3]
Makovetsky as at 2018 took 55th place in “Top 100 richest people in Ukraine” by the magazine “Focus”.[4] Valery is married. He has raised four children - 3 sons and a daughter.
Social Activity[edit]
Since 2003, International sport dances festival “Parad Nadiy” has been held with assistance from Makovetsky.[5]
Makovetsky is a member of the organizing committee of all-Ukrainian project “March of Memory” aiming at preserving the historical memory since 2004. He helps the labor and war veterans. Since 2006, Valery has been a member of the organizing committee of social project “The Big Heart of a Small Life” supporting gifted orphans from all over Ukraine.
In 2009, he financially supported the creation of the feature film ‘The Small Life” by Oleksandr Zhovna and became co-organizer of the social project “Public cinema”. Makovetsky has been a part of the organizing committee of all-Ukrainian social project “The Safety School” aiming at safe behaviour rules and healthy lifestyle promotion among children and teenagers since 2008.
In 2013, he became co-organizer of the social project “Eco-class” intended to raise Ukrainian eco-culture and contribute to decrease the people’s influence on nature. In 2018, Foxtrot co-founder became the partner of contribution to social activity program “Join us!” of social initiation ENGAGE CASE Ukraine[6]
Awards[edit]
In 2008, the Ukraine's Orthodox Church conferred the Order of St. Equal to Apostles Prince Vladimir, 3rd Class, to Valerii Makovetsky for helping the Church to take care of children deprived of parental care (the social project «A big heart of a little life»).[7]
