Valerina Daniel (born November 25, 1978) is an Indonesian journalist, environmental ambassador, as well as a communication and sustainability advisor. She was born in Jakarta to parents of West Sumatra descent. She is currently a news presenter for TVRI World, a state-owned news channel which is delivered in English and broadcasted internationally. She had previously worked for other Indonesian television networks such as Metro TV and SCTV.

Education and Achievements[edit]

Valerina graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of University of Indonesia. She continued her education at Monash University, Australia after receiving the Australian Leadership Awards in 2018 and graduated with a Master's Degree in Communications and Media.[1] Valerina is an alumni of the American Field Service (AFS) intercultural program.

In 2011 Valerina was awarded with the Australian Alumni Awards for Journalism and Media.[2] She is a title holder for None Jakarta of 1999 and a Runner Up for Puteri Indonesia or Miss ASEAN Indonesia 2005.[3]

Ambassador for Environment and Communications Advisor[edit]

Since 2007, Valerina has been appointed as an Environmental Ambassador[1] and served as a Communications Advisor at the United Nations Conference of Climate Change.[4] Until 2008 she was assigned as a Spokesperson and Communications Advisor for the Timber Legality Verification System program by the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry. In 2023, she was appointed as part of Senior Advisory Board for Communications at the Rhino Foundation of Indonesia (Yayasan Badak Indonesia).[5]

Since 2018-2020 Valerina was entrusted as an Expert to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy on Sustainable Tourism Development and the Head of Sustainable Tourism Acceleration Team at the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.[6] [7][8] From 2023 she has served as a Communications Advisor for Gender Equality and Social Inclusivity Infrastructure (GESIT) program, part of a work program for Indonesia Australia Partnership for Infrastructure (KIAT).[1]

To support her duties as an environmental ambassador, Valerina has written a series of books on environment, such as "Easy Green Living"[4][9] as well as children book series "Aku Sayang Bumi" (16 titles), and "4 Sahabat Super" which was written in collaboration with her daughter, Keisha Andryananto.[10][11]

News Anchor[edit]

She started her career as a journalist in 2000 by joining the Metro TV channel as a presenter and producer for their news programs. She later moved on to become a lead presenter and international correspondent for SCTV in 2011. In 2015 she became a host for the Prime Time Talk Show at Berita Satu News channel, currently known as BTV. As a journalist, she has covered many stories some of which were tsunami disasters in Aceh and Sri Lanka and the US Presidential Election in Washington, DC. She is presently a news presenter at TVRI World.
