Dirga Sakti Rambe
Dirga Sakti Rambe is an Indonesian internist and vaccinologist noted for his public advocacy on immunisation and adult vaccination.[1][2] He is affiliated with EMC Healthcare in Jakarta.[3]
Education
Rambe studied medicine at the University of Indonesia.[3] He later obtained a Master of Science in Vaccinology from the University of Siena in Italy. At Siena, he was mentored by Italian immunologist Rino Rappuoli, alongside fellow physician-scientist Melvin Sanicas.[4]
Career
Rambe is a specialist in internal medicine at EMC Pulomas Hospital in Jakarta, part of EMC Healthcare.[3] He is also the founder and Chief Medical Officer of Imuni, a health organisation focusing on vaccination.[5]
Since 2020, he has been frequently quoted in Indonesian and international media on public health and vaccination. During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, he was cited by Al Jazeera discussing Indonesia’s testing capacity.[2] He has also commented on influenza, adult immunisation, polio and dengue vaccines in outlets including ANTARA News,[1][6][7] Liputan6,[8] and VOI.[9]
Research
Rambe has co-authored research related to vaccines, including a paper on the safety and mechanism of action of licensed vaccine adjuvants while affiliated with the University of Siena. The paper was co-authored with physician-scientist Melvin Sanicas.[10]
Recognition
In 2014, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) profiled Rambe as one of the first Indonesians to study vaccinology, noting his selection for the Siena vaccinology programme.[11] He has also collaborated with UNICEF Indonesia as part of advocacy for immunisation awareness.[12]
