ValgrAI (Valencian Graduate School and Research Network of Artificial Intelligence) is a non-profit foundation based in Valencia, Spain. Established in 2022 by the Generalitat Valenciana, it serves as a coordinating body for artificial intelligence (AI) research and postgraduate education across the five public universities of the Valencian Community.[1]
The foundation acts as a bridge between academic research centers, such as the Polytechnic University of Valencia's PRHLT, and the private sector, aimed at transforming the regional productive model through AI innovation.

ValgrAI is a public-private partnership governed by a board of trustees and supported by an international scientific council.

Scientific Council
The foundation is notable for its Scientific Council, which provides strategic guidance and includes globally recognized figures in AI research:[2]
- Ramon López de Mántaras: (President) Founder of the AI Research Institute (IIIA-CSIC).
- Virginia Dignum: Professor at Umeå University and expert in AI ethics.
- Michael Wooldridge: Professor at the University of Oxford.

- Hiroaki Kitano: CEO of Sony Research Inc.

Board of Trustees (Industry)
In addition to public and academic members, the board includes representatives from the private sector to drive technology transfer. In 2024, the language technology company Pangeanic joined the board of trustees to advance the development of Small Language Models (SLMs) and sustainable AI.[3] Other board members include Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Baleària, and Hidraqua.
Activities
ValgrAI focuses on three primary pillars:
- Education: Financing over 150 annual study grants for master's degrees in AI and data science across Valencian universities.[4]
- Research Coordination: Managing a Joint Research Unit that brings together over 50 leading scientists to work on sectors like health, transport, and language technology.[5]
- **International Forums: Hosting the annual ValgrAI Scientific Council Forum (VSCF), an event that serves as a global meeting point for discussing the ethical and scientific challenges of AI.[6]
