Van Damsel was a Kamloops-based Alternative band formed in 2010.[1] The group consisted of Sebastien Ste Marie (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, synths), Richard Bregoliss (lead guitar, backing vocals, synths), Matthew Barron (drums, percussion, backing vocals, synths), and Matthew 'Renny' Rennehan (bass, backing vocals).[2][3]

They released 2 EPs, and two singles from their self-titled LP Van Damsel.[4][5][6]

History[edit]

Van Damsel formed as an upbeat, indie project after originally being a metal band called Martagan.[7] Mentored by former Our Lady Peace drummer, Jeremy Taggart, the band released their debut EP, Say Hello To Your Mother, in 2012, and their sophomore EP, The Sunshine, Girl, in 2013.[8][4] On March 5, 2015, they released the single "Best of Everything."[9] The song debuted on the Canadian Alternative Rock charts at #34 on May 12, 2015 and at #37 on the Canadian Active Rock charts on May 26, 2015 (Mediabase).[10][11] In June 2015, the band was accepted into the 2015 Peak Performance Project. On November 19, 2015, they took home the 3rd place prize of $50,000. Fresh off their 3rd place Peak Performance Project finish, Van Damsel released the second single from their first full length offering "Sophia" on November 20, 2015. After securing new management and label backing, the band released their self-titled debut LP "Van Damsel" on April 22, 2016 complete with cross country tours of Canada and the US. [6] Van Damsel announced that they would be breaking up at the end of 2016, citing creative differences.[12]
