Verity is a singer, songwriter, actress and motivational speaker from Cape Town, South Africa.

Biography[edit]

Verity was born in Zimbabwe and raised in South Africa. She won the Catch a Rising Star talent search in Florida in 2002 and was awarded a US working visa as an artist of outstanding ability in 2003. She performed to capacity audiences in Nashville and New York in 2005 and has established herself as a nationally acclaimed performer in South Africa.

Verity has been internationally recognised for innovation in the music industry and has been featured in various news sources in South Africa and around the world, including Carte Blanche, Africa's premier news reporting show. Verity launched the 'Lucky Packet Project' which is an initiative to generate funding for her records, independently of assistance from record labels, as well as to create investment for upcoming artists in South Africa.

Verity is the first musician in South Africa to sell her CD's before the CD's existed. Verity's web team developed a transaction facility on her website. 'Future Owners' bought enough of her CD's for Verity to fund the production of her album. Over 2000 people in 25 countries bought the CD, without guarantee of their investment being realised. 10.6% of every sale was given to two South African charities (POWA empowering women and the Live Your Dreams Foundation funding up and coming artists) and by the time the album was recorded over R30,000 had been contributed.

Verity is the first artist in South Africa to achieve a self-funded project of this nature. Verity has bucked the trend of signing up to a major record label and is the first person in South Africa to do this.

Verity's album, named "Journey" by her fans, was recorded with award-winning producers Paul McIver & Brian O'Shea and was released in July 2008. The story has been broadcast as Virtual Verity on M-Net's Carte Blanche, SABC3's The Power Within and more recently SABC3's Journey to the Core.

Verity plays regularly with her band Verity and the Shades around South Africa and is reputedly currently working on another album.
