Introduction:
This is a fun, strategy card game for 5 players (no more, no less), that our group played addictively throughout the engineering years at VJTI, Mumbai, and ever since! Try it out and get hooked!
Get started:
- Veto Card is Spade 2 card
- Remove two 2s from any other suites
- Distribute the remaining 50 cards equally amongst 5 players
- Dealer is rotated every round, in a circular pattern
Cards with points/value:All Aces, 10s: 10 points
All 5s: 5 points
Veto/Spade 2: 20 points
Total of 120 points
Bidding:- Person next to the dealer defaults to making 70 points.
- Ask others if they want to bid higher, by 5 points or more
- Highest bidder decides trump and “undisclosed“ partner.
Partner Selection:- Bidder decides/asks based on any card but usually, player with veto card, point cards that may be mostly guaranteed depending on your cards, order of play etc.
- Everyone knows individually if they are a partner or not, but should not be spoken or mentioned.
Play:- Highest bidder and partner have to make the bid points by the end of the game. Rest 3 players form the opposition, their goal is to make at least 5 more points than bidder.
- Bidder starts play, play rounds with normal hand making rules
- Keep point cards facing up in your completed hands, so everyone sees your total points
- All individuals try to gather/contribute points depending on their role (helping the bidder or opposition)
Veto power:Veto card can be put anytime and will win the hand, regardless of the trump.
Win/Lose:- If bidder and their partner makes the bid points, bidder gets as many points as they bid, partner gets half (one variation is where partner gets nothing for helping).
- Otherwise both bidder and partner get negative amount of bid points
- Play as many rounds, total points at the end
- Highest points wins
Strategies:- Bid if you want to score high
- Don’t disclose the partner unless absolutely warranted
- Bidder should decide based on their cards strength and points calculations, when they may want to preempt the partner to disclose themselves. This is done by playing certain cards/hands, not verbally or with any other cues.
Enjoy!
