Vicky Bhatia (12 December 1957 - 10 May 2015) was a German fashion designer, entrepreneur, managing director and proprietor of the Hamburg, Germany based high-end label MALVIN. He founded MALVIN in 1987 and through hard work, passion and dedication made it to an internationally known successful business.

His company NON STOP Modetextil Vertriebs GmbH has been at the cutting edge of luxury fashion since its inception in 1987.[1]

The philosophy behind MALVIN has from the outset been to provide high quality clothing and accessories to its consumers. In addition to the fashionably young MALVIN label, the Open End label joined them in 1998.

Early Life[edit]

After studying business administration in Gothenburg in Sweden, Vicky Bhatia realised a long-term dream and founded the “Modetextil Vertriebs GmbH” under the name NON STOP, with the slogan Dress for Success in Hamburg.

Career[edit]

Source of Inspiration

In an Interview when asked where he gets his creative ideas and inspiration from (necessary to start a new collection each season) he replied with, “On trips to all major cities in the world such as New York, Milan, Paris.  When strolling through the city, when exploring interesting shops, including shop windows. It is even more interesting to sit in cafes like in Florence or Paris and simply observe trends and let them sink in. That always inspires me! I find the most beautiful, most original prints for my fabrics at the Première Vision fabric fair in Paris, among other places. There, print designers present a wide variety of prints and embroidery that can be purchased exclusively. Printing on different fabric qualities then produces interesting, very individual effects.  Artificial fabric processing also represents a different kind of creativity for a new collection.”

Founding of Open End[edit]

Open End is a label that is not only successful in Germany, but also in Belgium, the Netherlands and Austria. Vicky Bhatia now also concentrated more on a young, attractive plus size fashion in sizes 42 to 54. Some cuts from sister label MALVIN (sizes 36 to 46) perfectly converted for larger sizes.

In an interview with Big is Beautiful [2]he stated, “It was time to offer women with format and style a special collection. Dress for Success! To be different from all other labels on the market! Affordable, very fashionable, stylish in pleasant materials such as silk and linen, for example. And it has proven itself. Open End is wearable for women between 30 and 60 years of age. It just depends on how comfortable you feel!”

Personal Life[edit]

Vicky Bhatia lived in Hamburg, Germany with his wife Yvonne Bhatia and his two children Celine Bhatia and Stella Bhatia.
