Victor Popovsky

Victor Popovsky (born April 1, 1968 in Chernivtsi, Ukraine) is a professional soccer player, professor, and soccer coach.

Education[edit]

Victor Popovsky holds a USSF National D soccer coaching license. He earned both his B.S. in Health and Physical Education and M.S. in Exercise Science at Kean University in Union, New Jersey.[1]

Coaching career[edit]

Popovsky was the Head Coach of the women's soccer program at Kingsborough Community College.[2] He also taught physical education at P.S. 321, a public elementary school in the neighborhood of Park Slope, Brooklyn.[3] While acting as a coach for the Fontbonne Hall Academy's girls soccer team, they were able to score 12-0 and won the Brooklyn-Queens championship.[4] Currently, he is an Associate Head Coach for Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, New York.[5] He also currently works as a coach for VIP Soccer Academy and as a soccer player scout for PNY Sports Agency New York.

Athletic Career[edit]

Victor Popovsky grew up playing soccer professionally for Ironi Ashdod, Israel. In New York, he was recruited to play for the Brooklyn College men's division 1 soccer team. In 2002, Popovsky's penalty kick allowed Kean University's soccer team to win the 2002 game against Rutgers-Newark.[6] He was the top scorer for his Over-35 Maccabi USA soccer team with 7 goals scored in 2013.[7] He played as number 19 and was given the name of "Goal Machine."[8] He also went on to play for the 2015 Pan American Maccabi Games in Santiago, Chile, and he scored the winning penalty kick that ultimately won the team a bronze medal.[9][10] During a game between the Manhattan Celtic Masters and Barnstonworth Rovers Veterans on April 2018, Popovsky was one of the players that scored a goal for his team (Manhattan Celtic Masters) that resulted in a 2:2 game score.[11][12] Victor Popovsky scored 23 goals for Brooklyn Italians Over-50 team during Long Island Soccer League's 2018-19 season.[13]
