Victor Hugo Romero Melendez[1] (born December 23, 1986) is a Venezuelan entrepreneur, creator of Jaimito [es] magazine,[2] writer, motivational speaker, and a Global Shaper of the World Economic Forum.

Personal life[edit]

Romero was born in San Cristóbal, Táchira and lived in the area until he graduated high school. He then went to the Venezuelan Air Force Academy (Military Aviation School). He received the insigne number 1 in the Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape military program coordinated by the Venezuela Special Forces and was selected to fly in a Tucano. He finally graduated as an Officer in the 2008 with the highest score of Aviation Intelligence Specialist.[3] In his first year of service he developed a different point of view from his superior officers, and became disappointed because the Army became a supporter of political propaganda,[4] which, according to the law was prohibited, motivating him to resign and leave the service one year later after his graduation as an officer.[5] Romero started to become an entrepreneur and created several startups, and in 2011 he graduated with a Master of Science degree of Public Management in the National Experimental University of Tachira.[3]

In the 2014 he was forced to leave Venezuela because was accused by the government of being part of a coup d'état.[5]

VH Editorial Corporation[edit]

At the age of 23 Romero founded the VH Editorial Corporation. His first product was the book written by him called Do not wait any longer, Do it now!,[6] which became a bestseller [7] in the microeconomics field. In the next several years, Romero was a motivational speaker,[8] giving advice to young entrepreneurs about how to create a company and pursue their dreams. In 2010, VH Editorial Corporation start publishing the comic of Jaimito [es],[9] the main character in different cultures of popular jokes and stories. The corporation also started to sponsor non-profit events organized by ONGs, the most important of which was Telecorazón [es].[10] Because of his startups and activities, Romero became popular, being mentioned in important magazines,[11][12] becoming a reference for youth [1][13] and finally, becoming a Global Shaper of the World Economic Forum.[14][15]

Romero had to stop his schedule after being accused by Nicolás Maduro's government[16] for conspiracy along with other Venezuelan Global Shapers and Promotion Partners of the Venezuela Air Force, who were arrested.[17] Romero fled to the United States as part of an increasingly large number of Venezuelans being persecuted and seeking asylum in the United States.[18]

Startups in the United States[edit]

After his arrival in the United States, he worked as a bartender at Disney every night while becoming a licensed agent of annuities and variable contracts[19][20] in the in Transamerica Corporation and a member of the World Financial Group.[21] After getting licensed, he created Adventurous Entertainment, LLC,[22] and began the development of several startups, the most important of which is Mercury Cash.[23]
