Victor Stone, also known as Cyborg, is a fictional character in the DC Extended Universe. Based off the character of the same name, he is portrayed by Ray Fisher, making his cinematic film debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before playing a prominent role in Justice League.

Development[edit]

Comics origins[edit]

Casting and execution[edit]

Actor Ray Fisher was cast to play Victor Stone / Cyborg in the DCEU.

Several years after the release of the theatrical version of Justice League, Fisher opened up about perceived mistreatment by Joss Whedon while filming the reshoots, leading to a dispute with Warner Bros. studio head and DC Films head Geoff Johns.[1] Nonetheless, Fisher was among several actors who returned to shoot additional footage for Zack Snyder's upcoming director's cut of the film.[2]

Future[edit]

A stand-alone Cyborg film was initially scheduled for a release date of April 3, 2020, but it has since been delayed.[3][4] In the films, the effects for his cybernetic parts are achieved using CGI.[5] Cyborg, played by Ray Fisher, will appear in Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021).[6]

Film appearances[edit]

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice[edit]

Victor Stone is first seen in footage taken and decrypted from Lex Luthor's servers by Bruce Wayne, who finds that Luthor had been researching metahumans in an attempt to hunt and blackmail them. Wayne sends footage of Stone being rebuilt into a cyborg by his father Silas to Diana Prince along with other information on fellow metahumans.

Justice League[edit]

Theatrical cut[edit]

Director's cut[edit]

The original cut of Justice League featured significantly more character development for Victor Stone/Cyborg before it was edited out in Joss Whedon's rewrites of the film. Zack Synder's upcoming director's cut of the film will restore much of this footage, with Cyborg being described as the "heart of the movie".
