Viking Tyres is a European manufacturer of tires for motor vehicles.
History[edit]
- Founded in 1931 in Askim, Norway, they were manufacturing rubber products (including shoes and tyres).
- By 1970 their market share in Norway was in excess of 50%, becoming the market leader and begins to supply for Volkswagen, Opel, Ford and Volvo.
- In 1983 Viking goes international, with expansions to Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and the USA.
- Continental AG acquires the trademark rights in the early 1990s.
- By 2008, the company reached the 1 million tires sold per year milestone.
- Their SnowTech II winter tire model is lauched in 2010.
- In 2012 the CityTech II and TransTech II models join their catalogue, offering summer tire solutions to cars and vans as well.
