Vince Thompson (born December 31, 1963) is an American business executive and book author known for running west coast advertising for AOL then setting up Facebook’s first advertising teams. According to Business Insider Thompson was the first Facebook employee to become a millionaire from the company’s stock.[1][2]

Early years[edit]

Thompson was born on December 31, 1963, in Sacramento, California. Thompson attended University of Southern California. He went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Business from Pepperdine University.[3]

Career[edit]

According to Advertising Age, Thompson has “led teams that were responsible for selling over a billion dollars in interactive advertising.” .[4] In November 1998 Thompson joined AOL, leading their advertising sales for the West Coast and worked as Western Sales Director, VP Capability and VP Sales until leaving in 2005 for a newly formed Facebook company. In 2005 Thompson joined Facebook as VP of Sales when the company had less than 30 employees. While there he oversaw the launch of the company’s national sales operation. Thompson is credited by Bloomberg Businessweek and Business Insider as being the first Facebook employee to make millions of dollars off the company’s stock. He also “Transformed private-company stock into cash” to engineer a secondary market transaction that was a first of its kind. Thompson left Facebook after 6 months of to start his own consulting firm, Middleshift Consulting.[5][6]

Thompson is the author of the Amazon bestseller, Ignited! Managers, Light Up Your Company for More Power, More Purpose and More Success published by FT Press and is contributor to the textbook “Media Selling”.[7][8][9][10]
