Cassie Wieland, known professionally as Vines, is an American indie rock/ambient musician and producer.
History[edit]
Wieland was born and raised in Normal, Illinois, where she attended Illinois State University for music composition.[1] She received her Master of Music degree from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.[2] In April 2023, Wieland self-released her first single as Vines, "Lung (Vines version)," a reinvented version of her original classical composition for solo violin.[3] Wieland released her first EP as Vines, "Birthday Party," in August 2023, recorded in Brooklyn, New York with producer Mike Tierney.[4] In 2024 she collaborated with harpist Emily Hopkins on their single "Never Mind."[5]
Musical style[edit]
Vines' style is wide-ranging, incorporating elements of ambient, indie-rock, and classical music. Journalist Vanessa Ague describes Vines' music as "an arrival to a new sound and to a new practice of intimacy and honesty in music; Wieland weaves lush, contemplative tapestries, finding catharsis in fuzzed-out melodies."[6]
