Search Violette Records on Amazon.Violette Records is an independent record label based in Liverpool, Manchester and Paris.[1]

The label was founded in 2013 by Michael Head (The Pale Fountains / Shack), Matt Lockett & Pascal Blua as an on-going platform for Michael Head's music and has developed into other music and non-music ventures and projects.

The label celebrated its 5th anniversary in March 2018.[1]

Origins[edit]

The label was born as an outlet for Michael Head's songwriting, recordings, live performances and associated activities. Considering options in 2013 he elected to form his own label with Matt Lockett. Pascal Blua was immediately appointed to establish branding, design and artwork.

The label's name originated from a dream of Michael Head's in which he was holding the most beautiful vinyl record sleeve: the artwork, the paper, the smell, the weight - all perfect. On examining the sleeve he noticed a small logo in the corner. He angled it for closer inspection to reveal the word "Violette" and its logo.

Prior to this the label had the working title of "The Countess of Chell": a character from an Arnold Bennett novel entitled "The Card" made into a 1952 film of the same name starring Alec Guinness, Glynis Johns, Petula Clark and Valerie Hobson as the Countess.

Violette Record's in-house ethic has been a consistent theme throughout its existence with management, artwork, events, promotion, ticketing, merchandise and distribution being principally undertaken by a small circle of associates close to the label.
