Introduction

It takes many years for technologies to be developed and implemented. Engine noise is one of the major contributors to the overall sound level while aircraft operates near the airport zone. Significant research continues in aviation field to reduce of the aircraft engine noise level by optimizing the nozzle dimensions. Now-a-days chevron nozzle is being used for noise reduction in the commercial aircraft.

Objective

This research study is focused on the design optimization of aircraft engine nozzle to reduce noise intensity by modifying the lobes design in chevron and has been made in this research study to investigate the flow field in lobes by varying the nozzle dimension.

Results and Conclusion

Different chevron nozzle design analyzed in ANSYS CFD for evaluating acoustic performance. Acoustic characteristics were studied for the main flow parameter namely pressure, velocity to find the most efficient shape of chevron. Based on the analysis the four shapes of chevrons, the following inferences are derived: M lobed chevron nozzle generates two decibels less than the baseline nozzle and one decibel less than that of chevron symmetric nozzle.
