Vis Radio

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Vis Radio was a record company, a radio equipment manufacturing company and later an Italian record label.[1]

History

Vis Radio Discografica was conceived in 1948 by Aldo Scoppa,[2] as an internal derivation of the company that designed and assembled radios, with the foresight to invest in the market for the production of new artists, especially Neapolitans. Its artistic directors were Loris de Rosa and Mario Landi.

Its head office was in Naples, at Corso Umberto I 132; it had two other offices, in Milan at Via Larga 11 and Via Stoppani 6 and in Rome at Via Flavia 72. It also owned its own recording studios, in Cupa Cajafa street in Naples.

Over the years it produced many artists, continuing to support the melodic and neo-melodic genre. Its best known singer, in the early years, was undoubtedly Claudio Villa, who published for Vis Radio all the 78-rpms he recorded from 1949 to 1956; Other famous artists were Mario Abbate, Gabriele Vanorio, Enzo Del Forno, Maria Paris, Gloria Christian, Leonardo Cabizza and Maria Teresa Cau (Quartetto Logudoro), Virginia Da Brescia, Alvaro Amici, Nunzio Gallo, Gino Da Procida, Gianni La Commare, Mirna Doris, Giorgia Moll, i Campanino, Mike Fusaro, Carlo Missaglia and many others.

Like other record companies, Vis had a sub-label, the Dominator, specialized mostly in orchestral music.

In the sixties, after having reached the brink of bankruptcy, the Vis record company went through a process of corporate restructuring, with the closure of peripheral offices. Subsequently, Scoppa sold Vis Radio to Mara Del Rio and Franco De Paolis.
