PDU (Platten Durcharbeitung Ultraphone[1]) is a Swiss record label founded in 1967 by Italian singer Mina and her father, Giacomo Mazzini.[2] Due to financial considerations, the company was registered in Schaan, Liechtenstein, but the head office was located in Lugano, Switzerland; until 1984, the office was also located in Milan, Italy.
In the early years, the label specialized in the release of pop music; it was joined by artists such as I Domodossola, Tihm, Aulehla & Zappa, Marita, Johnny Sax, Milena, Marisa Sacchetto, Roberto Ferri and Luigi Grechi. Since 1972, it has also been producing jazz music (Renato Sellani, Giorgio Gaslini, Bruno Tommaso, Romano Mussolini, Martial Solal, Gaetano Liguori, Guido Mazzon, Andrea Centazzo). At one time, the label began to release classical music.
Over time, new artists were no longer accepted into the label and the company was mainly engaged in the release of Mina's records.
Until the end of the 1970s, the parent company was Durium Records, then until 1996 it was EMI Italiana, after which it came under the direct control of RTI Music. Since 1999, the label has been part of Sony Music.[3]
