    VisualLab (New mathematics software)

    VisualLab is a format-free (syntax-free) numerical analysis and computer algebra system or program, for computations of mathematics in fields of science, technology, engineering as well as mathematics and education.[1] Unique features include a blank math sheet; one inputs equations or mathematical expressions on the sheet as in a notebook; click “Solve” button to obtain solutions. Users can carry out mathematical computations without any prior knowledge about computation programming algorithms and/or software commands, usually specific to a given software program. VisualLab is a constraints-based computational environment;[2] artificial intelligence and understanding of the text in terms of mathematics constitute the constraints required for its computations.

    Different from conventional numerical analysis and computer algebra systems,[3][4][5] VisualLab executes commands required by the text on the math sheet as a block, rather than line by line. There is no need to declare variables, and VisualLab accepts Greek letters as well. For example, to solve a system of three linear equations with 3 variables α, y3 and zk, a math expression of 9 - 2x3/(4-2) + (3-2) 2, a transcendental equation of x, and a polynomial of y:

      3α+4y3+5zk=8
      3 =2*α+4zk+3y3
      α+y3= zk-5
      9-2*3/(4-2)+(3-2)^2
      sin(x) + x=1
      2y^3 - 4y + y^2 +2 =0

    One simply types in or copy pastes the above equations to the math sheet, clicks “Solve” button, and VisualLab straightforwardly and instantly returns solutions:

      9 - 2*3/(4-2) + (3-2)^2 = 7
      α = 17
      y3 = -17
      zk = 5
      x = 0.5109735
      y1 = -1.862288
      y2 = 0.6811442 - 0.2702154 i
      y3 = 0.6811442 + 0.2702154 i

    VisualLab covers most areas of mathematics including statistics, calculus, differential equations and matrix computations.
