Viswajyothi College of Engineering and Technology (VJCET),[3] Vazhakulam in Muvattupuzha, Kerala, India, is a self-financed engineering college run by the Syro-Malabar Catholic eparchy of Kothamangalam. It is affiliated with APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University and Mahatma Gandhi University,[4][5][6]

All six Departments of VJCET are accredited by National board of Accreditation (NBA) for a duration of 3 years (Academic years 2018-19 to 2020-21).[7][8]

History[edit]

Viswajyothi started its function with 135 students and 35 staffs offering three Engineering Degree courses-B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, B.Tech in Electronics and Communication and B.Tech in Information Technology. In the year of 2005 B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering is also added to the Viswajyothi with a change of intakes(60 students/Branch) in all branches. In 2004 B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering is introduced in Viswajyothi with same number of intake.

With AICTE approval, Department of Computer Science and Electronics and Communication Engineering started one more batch with an intake of 120 students respectively.

It now offers courses in six undergraduate engineering streams (Civil, Computer Science, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Information Technology, Mechanical) as well as four post graduate courses (MBA, M.Tech. in CSE, ECE, and ME). In the year of 2011, B. Tech in Civil Engineering was sanctioned, PG course in Mechanical engineering (IEM) started and received Minority status for the college. In the year 2014, additional branches in Mechanical engineering and Civil engineering was sanctioned with a strength of 60 each.

Infrastructure[edit]

The college has a library, common computing centre, gym, sports stadiums, auditoriums, separated hostels for ladies and gentlemen, well-equipped labs.

With a total strength of 2303 students and 293 staffs. Viswajyothi has totally ten Departments including

The department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is one of the two departments that commenced with the institution. Dr. P S Janahan Lal was the head of the department then. The present head of the department is Mr. Amel Austine. The department of CSE now offers under- and post-graduate courses. Total annual intake is 120 for the UG course and 24 for the PG course.

The department was established in the year 2002. Fully equipped fluid mechanics, hydraulic machinery, and thermal engineering laboratories along with the state of art cad/cam lab adds to the repertoire of the department. The department has the most modern workshop facilities needed to carry out any fabrication and machining required by the students for experiment and project work. The department is guided by Dr. C N Paulose, the first principal of VJCET.
