Viswash Kumar Ramesh (Born 26 August 1984) is an Indian-born English Businessman, who was the sole survivor of Air India Flight 171, a Boeing 787-800 dream liner , which crashed into the Ahmedabad on 12 June 2025, killing the 241 onboard. His brother was died in the crash.
Known as the "Miracle of seat 11A" by the British media because he was survived from the crash at Ahmedabad. He was sitted at 11A in the AI171 Flight that was going to London Gatwick Airport on June 12, as a 40-year-old.
Early life and Education
Ramesh was born on 26 August 1984 in Patelwadi, Bucharawada, Diu. His father's name is Ramesh Bhalia and His mother's name is Manibhai. He is the eldest child of the family and having 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Ramesh had three younger brothers named, Ajay, Sunny and Nayan, and two younger sisters. His first younger brother, Ajaykumar Ramesh, was died in the Air India Flight 171 crash that happened at Ahmedabad, that did not survive. On 14 April 2014, Ramesh was appointed as the director of the textile company, RMV Fashions, which was closed on July 2022. He has a business venture in Diu, India, concerning their family business.
Personal life
Ramesh was married to Hiral, in sometime in 2013-14. He has a son, which was born on 2020-21.
Flight history and Crash
On June 12, 2025, Ramesh, a 40-year-old passenger, miraculously survived a plane crash. Seated in seat 11A next to an emergency exit, he reported that his section of the aircraft detached and landed on the ground floor of a hostel. He managed to escape through an opening created when the emergency exit broke open. Video footage captured him walking away from the wreckage unaided before being escorted to an ambulance. Doctors noted Ramesh was disoriented and had minor injuries, including burns to his left hand. He was discharged from the hospital after five days. Tragically, his brother, who was seated in a different row, did not survive the crash.
Aftermath
A month after the incident, by July 13, Ramesh was undergoing psychiatric treatment for severe mental trauma, as confirmed by his brother, Sunny. Despite being considered fortunate to have survived, Vishwas continued to grapple with intense grief and survivor's guilt. Sunny reported that Vishwas remained deeply distressed, experiencing disrupted sleep and withdrawing from communication, even with family members attempting to contact him from overseas. Vishwas had recently begun psychiatric treatment and had no immediate plans to return to London. A few days later, on July 20, his cousin Krunal Keshave further elaborated on Vishwas's condition, stating that he was experiencing nightmares about the flight and the fatalities he witnessed. While Vishwas was attempting to resume a normal life, he largely avoided going out and did not discuss the crash.
