Voice of Southern Mongolia (Mongolian-Cyrillic: Өмнөд Монголын Дуун, Traditional Mongolia: ᠡᠮᠦᠨᠡᠳᠦ ᠮᠤᠨᠭ᠍ᠭᠤᠯ ᠤᠨ ᠳᠠᠭᠤᠨ) is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation, founded in May 2022 and based in London, United Kingdom. According to their official website, Voice of Southern Mongolia is a non-governmental organization based in United Kingdom, they pursue freedom, democracy and national independence in Inner Mongolia ( China-occupied territory)."[1]

According to their website, They are dedicated to spreading the human rights situation in Inner Mongolia to the free world. Attempts to end the Chinese government's dictatorship in Inner Mongolia and to achieve freedom, democracy and national independence. Their members are located in London, UK, New York, USA and Tokyo, Japan.[2]

Voice of Southern Mongolia was originally a newspaper of the Southern Mongolian Democratic Alliance (SMDA). It was founded in 1995 by Hada, a dissident from Inner Mongolia, and others. Mainly publishes publications related to freedom, democracy and national self-determination in Inner Mongolia. In December 1995, VOSM ceased operations after Hada was arrested by the Chinese government for "separatism".[3][4]

Call for the release of Mongolian human rights activist Munkhbayar[edit]

Munkhbayar Chuluundorj has been handed 10 years in jail after condemning his country’s close ties with China. He has long been committed to organizing and fighting against the Chinese government's long-term human rights suppression in Inner Mongolia. Munkhbayar Chuluundorj is a well-known blogger, poet, and human rights activist known for defending the linguistic, cultural, and historical identities of ethnic Mongolians in China’s Inner Mongolia. Munkhbayar Chuluundorj was detained this past February 18 in Ulaanbaatar for his vocal critique of the Mongolian government’s close ties with China and the shrinking rights of ethnic Mongols in China’s Inner Mongolia.[5]

On January 11, 2023, Voice of Southern Mongolia and more than 100 human rights groups around the world issued a statement calling for the immediate release of human rights activist Munkhbayar, and claimed that Munkhbayar’s arrest was the result of the Chinese government’s long-term pressure on the Mongolian government to suppress supporters in Inner Mongolia result.[6]

Save Inner Mongolian activist Adiyaa[edit]

Inner Mongolia activist and teacher Adiyaa (Chinese name: Wu Guoxing) was persecuted by the Chinese government during the Inner Mongolia protests in 2020. After being persecuted by the Chinese government during the Inner Mongolia protests in 2020, he went into exile in Thailand on January 3, 2021 to seek asylum at the United Nations, and later obtained United Nations refugee status. In October 2022, the Thai Immigration Bureau put Adiyaa in an immigration prison. During this period, the Chinese police threatened Adiyaa and asked him to return to China to "confess" in an attempt to extradite Adiyaa back to China for trial.[7]

According to the Voice of Southern Mongolia's website, members of the group were involved in saving Adiyaa.
